For our family weekend away to Blackpool we stayed at the Big Blue Hotel. We wanted somewhere relatively central so we could see and do all the local attractions but also needed somewhere that could sleep all five of us. The Big Blue hotel ticked all the boxes! As an additional bonus we received breakfast and wristbands for the Blackpool Pleasure Beach included in the price. This is our Big Blue Hotel Blackpool review.
Big Blue Hotel Blackpool Review : Location
The Big Blue Hotel is situated right next to the Blackpool Pleasure Beach so couldn’t be more ideally located if you’re planning to hit the rollercoasters. The hotel is opposite the south pier and is easily walkable to the main attractions. During our stay we visited Coral Island, Sea Life Centre, Blackpool Tower Circus, Blackpool Tower Dungeon and Blackpool Tower Eye.
There’s a large onsite carpark that’s chargeable, even to guests. It’s £5 per night which is a discounted rate for those staying at the hotel. It does seem a bit mean to charge hotel guests in my opinion especially since they make money from non-guests parking there.
Big Blue Hotel Blackpool Review : Initial Impression
You can’t miss the hotel; as the name suggests it’s big and it’s blue! We arrived early and made use of the complimentary luggage storage. The interior was nicer than I imagined. They do describe themselves as a luxury family hotel but I was envisioning slightly garish decor inside. I’m not sure why! But it was tastefully decorated and the staff were friendly.
Big Blue Hotel Blackpool Review : Room
The room was a similar layout to rooms we’ve stayed in at CBeebies Land and Legoland Windsor. The main part of the room had our bed, and a sofa bed while round a small wall was the kids’ bunk beds.
The children’s area was decorated in a bright, bold turquoise while the rest of the room was a bit more subtle! The kids had their own tv with a console, and there was a snakes and ladders style game on the wall. Our younger two loved playing the game with the massive dice!
There was plenty room for all of us without it feeling overly cramped. I do like staying in rooms that have a slight partition because we find it helps the kids settle properly and go to sleep.
The bathroom was immaculately clean with a decent sized bath and shower. We appreciated the complimentary toiletries and I loved how bright it was. Perfect for putting my makeup on!
Big Blue Hotel Blackpool Review : Dining
We booked as a bed and breakfast deal and so had our breakfast in the hotel restaurant. It was buffet style with cereal, pastries, yoghurts and a traditional full English. We really enjoyed it and it wasn’t overly busy, especially considering it was the weekend.
The restaurant has a fab bar that does delicious cocktails as well as the usual alchoholic and non-alchoholic drinks. The restaurant and cafe bar offer different menus depending on what you’re looking for.
We ate out one of the nights, and the second night we opted for room service since it was my husband’s birthday. There’s a £7 fee which we thought was a bit pricey (it’s only £4 at the Hilton!) However the food was amazing! It was so tasty and it came relatively quickly.
Big Blue Hotel Blackpool Review : Access To Pleasure Beach
The hotel has its own entrance to the Pleasure Beach which is exclusively for hotel guests. We got the wristbands as part of the deal but you can buy them separately from the hotel at a discounted rate. The entrance is open for the first 90 minutes after the Pleasure Beach opens allowing quick and easy access for guests.
Big Blue Hotel Blackpool Review : Summary
The hotel is clean and modern and the location is fantastic. We enjoyed our meals within the hotel and the room was great for all five of us. We’d definitely recommend it, particularly for families.
